Founded by the late Emmy award-winning journalist Melodie
Wilson Oldenburg in 1999, ABCD offers free, personalized,
one-to-one emotional support and information for anyone
impacted by breast cancer. This includes people currently in
treatment (“patients”), people who have completed treatment
(“survivors”), people living with stage IV/metastatic disease
(“thrivers”), people who are at high risk of developing breast
cancer because of their genetics (“previvors”), as well as family
and friends. As a complement to medical care, ABCD matches
people with a trained volunteer ABCD Mentor who has a
similar lived experience, providing compassionate support
based on diagnosis, treatment, age, and lifestyle. Our customized matching is done exclusively by our Match Specialists
with no A/I involved. With 280+ volunteer Mentors around
the country and a fully virtual platform, ABCD helps people
worldwide, ensuring no one faces breast cancer alone.
